Sore Throat - Disgrace To The Corpse Of Sid / Unhindered By Talent

Gnarled punk/hardcore/grind from the legendary Sore Throat. This compiles two of the bands releases into one CD, both of which were never given the CD treatment in Europe until this point. This was bought through Earache, and is an Earache release - however it wasn't around for long. Even the cover mentions not to pay "more than £50 on eBay" - hahaha! A nice trinket for the collector.

Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness

Carcass' 2nd album here; where they kept their grinding edge but moved away from the carcinogenic & atonal distortion blistered mess that was their debut, to something with more palatable structuring and songwriting. This pressing is the most interesting thing for me, as it's a joint release between Combat Records & Earache (the first US pressing of it, I believe). Not a particularly easy to version find these days. As is evident, this has the original artwork intact, too. Carcass are still the daddies of pathology/gore inspired metal to this very day.

Anaal Nathrakh - The Whole of the Law

The latest album from now long running brit blackened blasters, Anaal Nathrakh. Always surprises me when I consider that this is their ninth full length album, it only seems like yesterday to me that they were rolling out their sickly demos and their insanely good debut album 'The Codex Necro'. Never bending, but perhaps adding more melody over the years, they are still as strong as ever. Digibook release on Metal Blade Records.

Anal Cunt - Everyone Should Be Killed / I Like It When You Die / It Just Gets Worse

A selection of albums from the incredibly sensitive and loving grind blasters, Anal Cunt. Yes, of course you've heard of them before (with a name like theirs, it's bound to draw attention). Let's face it, attention is what mainman Seth Putnam loved (his song titles, lyrics and overall lifestyle were pretty much as offensive as it got). GG Allin, eat your heart out. Anyhow, these three albums cover various periods of their earlier works, all released on Earache Records and currently out of print. I must admit, the dark humour has had me chuckling in the past - pretty much due to the shock value and/or childishness of a lot of it, certainly more so than the actual enjoyment of the music on offer (it was - at its most basic - as close to pure white noise, feedback and distortion as it gets at times). But, who can deny their unbending insistence of upsetting as many folks as they possibly could in their time as a band.

Ghoul - Dungeon Bastard

The long awaited fifth full length studio album from US horror merchants, Ghoul. If you haven't come across these guys before, correct that immediately. Featuring quite a pedigree in band members (Sean McGrath & Ross Sewage of Impaled among others), Ghoul mix up the perfect quantity of thrash, death and blasting grind set to a horripilating theme of horror, death and destruction. In terms of quality, these guys rarely put a foot wrong, so well worth your time investigating (if you haven't done so already). Tank Crimes Records.

Brutal Truth - End Time (Deluxe Box Set)

Another limited edition set here (to 500 units this time), this one was ordered directly from Relapse, something I would do more often, if it wasn't for their crazy excessive pricing for shipping to anyone outside of the USA. 'End Time' is the final album from grindcore pioneers Brutal Truth, featuring their usual shards of spastic riffage and disdain for regular arrangements and melody. This set comes with some admittedly pretty cool art cards, 6 bonus tracks of covers from Napalm Death, S.O.B, Discharge and others, and also the sleeve is scratch and sniff, supposedly smelling of weed. Now, I dunno what weed these guys are smoking, but it's smell is like no other weed I've ever caught a whiff of!

Gore Beyond Necropsy - Noise-A-Go-Go!

The Japanese scat-kings themselves, and self proclaimed masters of "Analdrillingrind Hardshit Core". It takes a strong disposition to get anything out of such aural abused which is trying to be the very antithesis of music's usual core structures, which is probably why these guys are hated by so many - much to their own pleasure. To me, this is funny as.... shit. It just makes me laugh that they go to such extremes in just about every respect. Pure mindless noise-grind for poo lovers everywhere! Relapse Records.

Aborted - Retrogore (Box Set)

Aborted's latest album here, in it's limited to 5,000 copies box set version. This comes with the usual extras (flag, bonus tracks etc), but the sweetest part of this set is the bonus EP of 'Termination Redux', which was previously only available on vinyl/digitally. These guys have really turned on the style in their last few albums, after going through a bit of a bare patch a few years ago. Glad to have em back smashing out the grimy grinding death we know and love them for once more.

Extreme Noise Terror / Extreme Noise Terror

This is last year's self titled album from Extreme Noise Terror. After the tragic death of one of their vocalist Phil Vane, he was replaced in the band by former Gorerotted vocalist Ben McCrow for this release. I'm always slightly dubious when a band releases a self titled album so far into their career, as it often shows sign of stagnation or lacking ideas. This is definitely NOT so with this album. To me it seems that this was clearly a sign of intent of a return to the band's roots, with the album being packed with blasting bursts of song, rattling drums, strangled guitars and gnarled vocals bellowing over the top - just what the doctor ordered!

Necrony - Necronycism: Distorting The Originals

A nice slice of history here, with Necrony's covers EP on Poserslaughter Records, 1994. Necrony members went on to form Nasum as a side project, but in these early days, they worshipped the gods that are Carcass (as if you wouldn't be able to tell from the cover and title!). 12 tracks, featuring covers from Carcass, Impetigo, Repulsion, Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower and Carnage - what's not to love?

Depression - Chronische Depression

The 10 year anniversary album from German death/grinders Depression, limited to 1,000 copies on Deadly Art Production. Features early tracks from their great number of demos and splits from the 90s, covers and original material.

Aborted ‎– The Purity Of Perversion

The debut album from Belgium's Aborted, in it's Belgian pressing on Soulreaper Records. The gore-filled first foray of Aborted sees their influences shine the brightest, aping Carcass and Impetigo to create a heaving death grinding monstrosity. More elements to their sound were to follow later in their career, but I still dig their style (particularly their last couple of efforts).

Cephalic Carnage - Conforming to Abnormality

The debut album from Colorado's very own "hydrogrind" merchants Cephalic Carnage here, in its original first pressing on Headfucker Records. Did I mention that these guys worship weed? No? Well that's pretty much the quintessence of what we have here; a ganja grinding schizophrenic blaster of an album, incorporating groove, core, sludge and doom into their sound. This was the first full length to make their mark and whilst better things were to come, this has the odd spark of creativity and has enough to hold your attention throughout. Decent!

Pungent Stench - Dirty Rhymes and Psychotronic Beats

Finally managed to find this for a low price (hence why it was missing from my 400th post all those months/years ago - the search had been ongoing and extensive!). A nice cover, no? Anyway, you know Pungent Stench don't you? So you know what to expect on this sought after EP. More of the same gastric juice gargling vocals and shit lapping riffs! Another old school Nuclear Blast throwback...

The County Medical Examiners - Forensic Fugues and Medicolegal Medleys

This is the debut album from The County Medical Examiners, a band who've basically based their entire existence on early Carcass. Now, I'm a huge Carcass fan, so have no issue with the likes of these guys (or Exhumed, Impaled, General Surgery... or anyone else who have taken the goregrind blueprint and ran with it). This is the only Razorback Records press, and has been out of print for a long while. Good shit if you're a fan of the style like myself.

Blood - Christbait / O Agios Pethane

Here we have the 2nd and 3rd albums from German death/grind merchants Blood. Grunting, grinding gristly chunks aplenty here, as a malestrom of musical carnage hits you from the speakers. I think these guys actually got better as they went along, setting them apart from the "First albums the best" crowd. These are original pressings on the now defunct 1MF recordz.

Macabre - Gloom / Sinister Slaughter

The first two albums from America's comedic sickos Macabre, in their early CD pressings on Vinyl Solution Records and Nuclear Blast respectively, with the debut album featuring their Grim Reality E.P as bonus tracks. Great, sick and funny grinding death metal, in the usual Macabre vein (i.e, grinding nursery rhymes about serial killers!).

Catasexual Urge Motivation - The Encyclopedia of Serial Murders

Japan's Catasexual Urge Motivation (beautifully shortened to C.U.M by many) are certainly a different band to many you might've come across. Touches of Mortician mixed with the grime and sickness of just about any porno-grind band you'd care to mention, but with a dash of brilliance that sets them apart from the pack. Add in some crazy drum programming and insane guitar work, and there you have the long and short of it. This isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're in the mood for blowing your brains out for an hour and a few seconds - this is an ideal candidate. Oh yeah, the artwork. Just what the fuck is going on there? Also, try reading the tracklisting on the back cover art and say goodbye to your retinas. Original 1st pressing on short-lived German label Deliria Records, which was limited to 500 copies. It was re-issued by Razorback Records years later, but with different artwork.

Inferia - Masterpiece

Here is the debut album from Finnish noise-merchants Inferia. These guys bash out some gnarled grindcore with touches of death metal thrown in to bulk up the recipe. The artwork is pretty apt when taken into consideration the music here - someone drilling a hole into someone elses skull (trepanation, my dear Watson!). Turn the volume up, certainly feels like that doesn't it? Hahaha. Anyhow, this is the original pressing on Streetrock Records - definitely one to keep an eye out for.

Filthy Christians - Mean

Featuring the infamous artwork of the corpse of former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme shortly after being gunned down, Filthy Christians' one and only full length studio album features crusty, grinding bursts of anger which Earache were renowned for back in the day. Out of print these days, this is the original Earache press - worth checking out if you like a bit of grimy grind.
